Debashis Das Shines Bright on the International Stage with Bongo Gourab Samman
Kolkata’s cultural heart—Sujata Sadan, Kalighat—witnessed a moment of pride not just for India, but for Bangladesh as well. On August 2 and 3, during the vibrant Bongo Gourab Utsab Season 5.1 Pro, the spotlight fell on one of Bangladesh’s most celebrated creative figures: Debashis Das. In a hall filled with South Asia’s brightest minds and most talented hands, Debashis was crowned “International Motion Graphics Leader”, receiving the Bongo Gourab Samman (International)—a fitting recognition for a man who has spent over two decades redefining the visual language of television branding.
For Debashis, this wasn’t just another award. It was a symbol of his cross-border influence in the motion graphics industry, where he has become synonymous with innovation and storytelling. From the moment his name was called, it was clear—this wasn’t merely a designer being honored, but a visionary whose work has reshaped an entire field.
The organizers Bolo Kolkata TV—one of Kolkata’s prominent media authorities— handpicked Debashis through a rigorous selection process. Out of hundreds of South Asian nominations, his work stood out for its depth, cultural relevance, and mastery of motion design. His ability to interweave brand identity with narrative emotion has transformed everything from news broadcasts to special TV program branding.
This landmark award crowns what has already been a monumental year for Debashis. In 2025, he also took home the South Asia Star Award for Creative Leadership in Branding, was recognized as Digital Branding Leader of the Year at the Star Bangladesh Award, and was named Best Motion Graphics Artist at the Excellence in Success Awards. These back-to-back accolades show not just consistency, but a creative force constantly pushing forward.
But Debashis didn’t arrive here overnight. His journey began in 2007 at RTV, where he introduced refined storytelling techniques to motion graphics. At Jamuna Television, he gave branding a bold, emotionally resonant identity that resonated with audiences. Today, he’s the Deputy Manager of Graphics at Maasranga Television, where his imprint is visible in nearly every major program—elevating how stories are told on screen and how brands communicate visually.
Beyond television, Debashis is shaping future creators. Since 2018, he has taught at Pathshala South Asian Media Institute, one of the region’s top creative institutions. His curriculum blends aesthetics, brand psychology, and software, empowering students to become not just operators—but creators. From 2022, he’s also been a guest lecturer at Dhaka University, where his mentorship is turning classrooms into launchpads.
And Debashis isn’t stopping at design. He is a vocal advocate for mental well-being in creative professions. Through yoga and meditation seminars, he encourages artists to nurture both body and mind. His holistic view of success—as a balance between creativity and inner peace—makes him an unusual but much-needed leader in the fast-paced media world.
He’s also left his mark in publishing, having designed over 200 book covers for some of Bangladesh’s most prominent authors. Just like his television work, these designs are defined by subtlety, depth, and emotion.
With the Bongo Gourab Samman (International) now added to his long list of achievements, Debashis Das continues to be an icon of modern creativity—a name that bridges countries, mediums, and generations. His work speaks not only to a screen or a page, but to the soul of storytelling itself.
